Carrier oils - mix your essential oil with a carrier oil first

Because essential oils are very strong, you should never apply them directly to your skin - tea treeĀ  and lavender oil are the only oils you can apply neat.

Essential oils need to be “carried” by another medium, and usually these are carrier oils, although you can also use creams, gels and milk.

Commonly used carrier oils include vegetable and nut oils. You can use olive oil, macadamia nut oil, apricot kernel oil and almond oil.

Most companies which sell essential oils also provide a range of carrier oils. For special blends, you can buy special oils, or you can just use a vegetable oil from the supermarket.

Tip: for massages, just mix enough for a single treatment.
